Privacy Policy
Effective July 7, 2026
LandlordTea (“LandlordTea,” “we,” “us”) lets renters read and write anonymous reviews of landlords, buildings, and management companies. Protecting the people who leave reviews is central to how we operate. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the limited circumstances under which we would disclose it.
The short version
- You do not need an account to read or write a review.
- We never publicly display your name, email, or IP address, and we never share them with the landlord.
- We store as little as possible, and we automatically delete technical identifiers on a fixed schedule.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Where the law allows, we notify you before responding to a legal demand for your information.
What we collect
Reviews you submit
The content of your review — ratings, tags, and the text you write — is published on the site and is the whole point of LandlordTea. Do not include information you would not want to be public, and do not include other people's private information (see our Community Guidelines).
Optional email
If you provide an email address, we use it only to (a) send a one-time verification link so your review can carry a “Verified Tenant” label, and (b) optionally notify you about your review. Your email is never shown publicly and never shared with the landlord. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
Technical data
To fight spam, fraud, and review-bombing, we temporarily log limited technical information when you submit content — such as an IP address and basic device/browser data. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles.
Public records
Building and landlord profiles also display official public records (for example, housing-code violations from NYC Open Data / HPD). That is government data about properties and registered contacts — not information we collect about you.
How long we keep it
- Published review content: kept while the review is live; removed if it is taken down under our guidelines or at our discretion.
- IP address and device data tied to a submission: automatically purged on a rolling schedule (generally within 30–90 days) once anti-abuse checks are complete, unless we are legally required to preserve it.
- Verification documents: if you ever submit proof of tenancy for a badge, we verify it and then delete the document, keeping only a yes/no verification flag — not the underlying file.
- Email address: kept until you ask us to delete it or it is no longer needed.
How we protect reviewer anonymity
We do not display your identity, we collect the minimum needed to keep the platform trustworthy, and we delete technical identifiers on the schedule above. We want to be honest rather than over-promise: no online platform can guarantee absolute anonymity against every possible legal process. What we commit to is this — we design the system to hold as little identifying data as possible, and, where the law permits, we will notify you and give you a reasonable opportunity to object before we respond to a subpoena or other legal demand seeking your information. We will resist demands that are facially invalid or overbroad.
When we disclose information
We disclose personal information only:
- to service providers who help us run the site (e.g. hosting, email delivery, analytics) under contract;
- when required by a valid legal process, subject to the notice commitment above; or
- to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or LandlordTea.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share your email or identity with landlords.
Your choices
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, including removing an email address or requesting removal of a review you submitted. Contact us at privacy@landlordtea.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California and other U.S. state privacy statutes; we honor applicable rights.
Children
LandlordTea is for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product and the law evolve. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page.
